Wrinkle Fillers New Orleans

As we age, our natural collagen and elastin in the skin lessens, as cells lose their ability to produce more of their youthful component. The skin becomes dryer, thinner and less able to “fix” itself. When we are born, we have plentiful amounts of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in our body, but as we get older the storage of HA diminishes, leaving the skin less supported and so lines and wrinkles develop. By lifting and smoothing targeted folds and wrinkles by adding subtle volume, dermal fillers can make a difference to a person’s appearance, giving them a fresher look.

WHAT DERMAL FILLERS ARE USED TO FIX

Dermal fillers can be used to fix a variety of concerns related to facial aging including:

  • Adding volume and smoothing out the deep creases that run from the nose to the mouth (called nasolabial folds or laugh lines).
  • Plumping thin lips and smoothing out vertical lines around the edges of the lips.
  • Augmenting cheeks to enhance their shape, often restoring youthful fullness.
  • Filling out depressions under the eye area.
  • Making indented scars from acne or chicken pox more even with surrounding skin.
  • Increasing volume to fill out hallows in the lower cheeks or temple area.

HOW DERMAL FILLERS WORK AND HOW THEY’RE DIFFERENT FROM BOTOX

Dermal fillers are a natural-derived or synthetic material that is directly injected into skin with the purpose of plumping that area to the point where the wrinkles, depression, or fold is gone. Depending on the type of filler, the effects can last anywhere from six months to two years; for semi-permanent or permanent fillers, the effects can last up to five years, and there are reports of even longer-lasting results.

Don’t confuse dermal fillers with Botox and Dysport, which are wrinkle relaxers. Although both procedures involve injections, Botox is most often injected around the forehead and crow’s feet to stop muscle movement that results in wrinkles. It has nothing to do with the plumping smoothing effect dermal fillers have. Many patients use a combination of Botox and Dermal fillers-the combination can produce a remarkably younger-looking face.

WHAT RESULTS DOES THE TREATMENT AIM TO PROVIDE?

The results should be subtle, leaving your friends and family believing that you are simply looking your best. It takes a lot to over-do it. The rule of thumb for estimating how much filler you need to rejuvenate your face is one syringe per decade. For example, if you’re 30 you may need three syringes, and if you’re 40 you may need four. To look like an overdone celebrity, it would take about 10 syringes.

IT’S NOT JUST FOR FACIAL REJUVENATION

Fillers are primarily used in the face to restore volume and fill in deep wrinkles and nasal folds, but they’re also used elsewhere to rejuvenate the body. For instance, Radiesse is used for subdermal implantation into the hands to smoothen out wrinkles and high pronounced veins. Dr. Pelias also uses fillers to support droopy earlobes, which helps women wear their favorite heavy earrings a bit better.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FACIAL FILLERS

Juvederm XC/Juvederm Ultra XC

Main Ingredient: Hyaluronic Acid
Uses: Juvederm Ultra is good for the fine lines and not so deep wrinkles of the face. Juvaderm Ultra can be used closer to the surface of the skin and areas with thinner skin, such as the parentheses around the mouth and nose. Juvederm Ultra XC can be injected into the lips and used for lip augmentation.
How it works: When injected, the hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge. It absorbs water and as a result plumps up the area in which it was injected.
How long will it last: Reported to last from six months to a year.

Juvederm Voluma XC

Main Ingredient: Hyaluronic Acid
Uses: Goof for adding volume and contour to the cheeks.
How it works: The hyaluronic acid absorbs water and augments the injected area.
How long will it last: The effects of Juvederm Voluma XC lasts about two years.

Radiesse

Main Ingredient: Calcium hydroxylapatite in the form of microspheres.
Uses: Radiesse stimulates the body to form new collagen. This will make the product last long, thus reducing the need for a touch-up. Additionally, the gel and calcium-based microspheres add volume to the injected area.
How long will it last: Results are clinically proven to last a year or more.

Restylane Silk/Restylane/Restylane-L

Main Ingredient: Hyaluronic Acid
Uses: Restylane is used to improve moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. Restylane-L or Restylane Silk are also great for lip augmentations.
How long will it last: Restylane will last six months to a year.

Sculptra

Main Ingredient: Poly-L-Lactic Acid
Uses: Sculptra is used for building up the cheeks, filling in hallows or sunken areas of the face, and increasing skin thickness which decreases the appearance of folds and lines.
How it works: Unlike the hyaluronic acid based fillers, Sculptra’s mechanism of action encourages the forming of new collagen in the injected area and the effects are not immediate. Multiple treatments are required, approximately 4 weeks apart. The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the facial aging. The skin thickness increases gradually.
How long will it last: In a clinical study, the effects of Sculptra lasted up to 2 years after the first treatment session. A full treatment consists of an average of three injections approximately 4-6 weeks apart.
Other types of fillers offered at Dr. Pelias’ office is: Belotero, Bellafill and Restylane Lift.
