Chemical Peels New Orleans

Chemical peels are one of the oldest cosmetic procedures in the world and was performed in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to help people achieve smoother, more beautiful skin. Chemical peels have been around for a long time for good reason-they work. Today, chemical peels are popular because they offer nearly immediate results and can be performed as an outpatient procedure. A chemical peel could heal your skin woes, from acne scars and uneven skin tone to melisma and fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Pelias and our Medical Aesthetician have performed thousands of chemical peels with great results!

WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical peel uses a solution that is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and stimulate the production of new skin cells. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

During your consultation with Dr. Pelias you will discuss your concerns and the improvements you are hoping to achieve. Dr. Pelias or our highly trained Medical Aesthetician will examine your skin to determine what type of chemical peel with best suit your needs. Dr. Pelias may recommend a superficial, medium or deep chemical peel.

WHAT SKIN CONDITIONS CAN A CHEMICAL PEEL IMPROVE?

Superficial or lunchtime peels are composed of an Alpha-hydroxy acid or another mild acid. This is used to penetrate only the outer layer of skin to gently exfoliate it. The treatment is used to improve the appearance of milk skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands.

Medium peels are typically Glycolic or trichloroacetic acid and is applied to penetrate the out and middle layers of the skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration.

Deep peels are tricholoracetic acid or phenol acid which is applied to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. Patients will see a dramatic improvement in skin appearance. The procedure is performed by Dr. Pelias on the face and only can be performed once.

WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL TREATMENT LIKE?

Most chemical peels sting but do not cause a great deal of pain. Gentle peels such as a glycolic acid or Jessner peel may cause stinging, redness and crusting but typically these sensations only last 10-15 minutes.

Strong peels like TCA or trichloroacetic acid sting more than those with gentler acids. After the treatment, there may be redness and irritation. Some deeper peels may require anesthesia and can only be performed by Dr. Pelias.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER HAVING A CHEMICAL PEEL?
